I was born in Massachusetts and grew up in a neighborhood in Boston. I attended HarvardUniversity and earned a B.A. in psychology. It was during my experience at Harvard that I first discovered psychology. I was taking an introductory psychology course as an elective and fell instantaneously in love with the world of human behavior. I became fascinated with people, their actions, and their thoughts. I also wanted to learn more about myself and my feelings. Through my academic work and volunteer experience as a peer counselor for students with eating disorders, I came to understand and appreciate the importance of the psychological self and the power of one’s feelings and emotional experiences.
After graduating from college, I worked for several years with low-income families and their children suffering from poverty-induced malnutrition. I saw some of the devastating effects of poverty, such as poor living conditions and lack of nutritious food. I also saw some of the difficulties in obtaining mental health services. However, I also saw the profound impact that therapy could have on the life of a person who receives psychological services.
My belief in the importance of good psychological health, my desire to work with people, and my work experiences all culminated into a desire to become a clinical psychologist. I attended graduate school and earned a M.S. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
I have trained at various places, including several university settings. I completed an APA-approved internship at the CambridgeHealthAlliance-HarvardMedicalSchool, where I worked in both the inpatient and outpatient units, and a postdoctoral fellowship in university mental health at Boston College Counseling Services.
Currently, in addition to my private practice, I work as Training Director and Staff Psychologist at Boston College Counseling Services. As Staff Psychologist, I evaluate and treat students with a wide range of presenting concerns. As Training Director, I supervise the postdoctoral fellowship program that provides doctoral-level clinicians with advanced clinical training.
I am a licensed psychologist and health service provider in Massachusetts. I am also a member of the American Psychological Association and Massachusetts Psychological Association.
